Update: it's either temporarily or permanently closed. However it appears there is another bantam chef in bunnell. I'll make a run down there and grab dinner and review in the very near future

This unassuming little place serves one great fish sandwich (and a great fish platter too). They have a few tables inside and a few outside. You order at the counter and they bring it to you when it is ready. The prices are very reasonable compared to the other tourist spots in town. The fish sandwich is just $9.99 and indeed it is huge! The fish is lightly breaded and very tender and delicious. The same with the platter which is a good size serving and comes with fries, which were nice and thin and pretty good though not as crispy as I would have liked. Also it comes with a couple hushpuppies which were just OK. A good value and a quick meal!

Holy moly fish-a-rollly. That famous fish sandwich did not disappoint. This is a small counter order place for a quick meal.

What a great find, we walked by this place and then came back. They have seating on the street level and up the stairs on the front porch. We went in and had great conversation with the owner and how she came to own the business. She was so knowledgeable about the area and the museum across the street. We ordered a Seafood Combo dinner and BBQ wings and an Oyster dinner. We enjoyed it thoroughly on the front porch as we people watched the wedding across the street. The fish and shrimp were delicious but we really loved the oysters. We ordered another dinner right before they closed and they let us just hang on the porch even as they closed. It was a great evening with wonderful food. I would recommend stopping by and having some fried oysters!!!

Came in during the afternoon. It wasn't busy. Food comes out very fast. The pricing is spot on reasonable. Ordered: Fish and chips: a little on the greasy side but delicious. Fish was fresh and all the food was crisp. Also had a sprinkle of seasoning on top. Could be shared for a quick meal. Fish sandwich: it was huge! Coleslaw: love their take on it. Had more apple in it which gave it a good bite. Overall was a good fried food place.

Awesome fish, shrimp and oysters dinner meal. Service and food was excellent. Totally recommend this place. You will have to pay for parking which is next to the building.

Best fried seafood in St Augustine area, and best fried oysters in a whole lot of places!! We live locally, and this is on our heavy rotation. Does not have its own parking lot, but it is next to several large Lots owned by the city with fairly cheap hourly rates along with some Private spots that are free after 7 p.m. weekdays and all day Sunday. They're famous for a fish sandwich for around $9.59. The sandwich seems like it has a half a dozen planks of seafood, and I usually take half the fillets off to take home as leftovers and then eat the still a sizable sandwich with lettuce tomato xcetera. Any of the sandwiches can be turned into a basket which includes fries and coleslaw, but they also let you substitute tater tots for a very minimal or no fee instead of fries. The french fries are like McDonald's AKA the very thin ones with a good amount of salt. My daughter loves the fries and hamburgers here. I've also had the Philly style chicken cheesesteak and it was very generously portioned. The fried shrimp is ludicrously good, and the fried oysters just are better than anyone else I've been to in St John's country or Jacksonville area. They have fried side orders like onion rings and mushrooms, all reasonably priced and excellent. My one complaint is that they don't have any non fried Seafood options. It is counter service, as in order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. There's three or four small tables inside and several plastic picnic tables on the outside. Ordering to go is always another option. Apparently they have other locations, but at this location you can order Philly steak toppings over french fries. If you're in the mood for fried seafood, look no further!!

My husband and I stopped in on our recent mini vacation to St. Augustine. We knew we had to try a seafood spot, and couldn't resist seeking out their big fish sandwich. Boy, were they being serious with how massive the sandwich is! We both ordered one and split a side of fries. Let me tell you--not only is this thing HUGE, but it was delicious and we thought the prices were great for the large portions. We were so stuffed that we couldn't even eat until lunch the next day. The staff were also very friendly and everything was prepared fresh to order. This is a unique spot and we can't wait to return next time we're in the area!

I have been a fan of the Bantam Chef's original location in Bunnell (located a bit south of St. Augustine), so when I heard that they opened a location here and I found myself in St. Augustine on business, I knew where I would be having at least one meal. The Bantam Chef is known for their fish sandwich and it is in my opinion one of the best fish sandwiches I have ever had. It is piled high with Alaskan pollock and complimented with lettuce, tomato (I have them hold mine), onions, pickles, and tartar sauce. I also add liberal amounts of hot sauce to mine. In addition to their "famous" fish sandwich, I made it a combo and upgraded to onion rings. I was happy to see that this location lives up to the original Bantam Chef's reputation. The sandwich was great, as were the sides (though I prefer the tater tots to the onion rings), and the service was great. As for the atmosphere, do not expect anything special, though if you have been to the original Bantam Chef, you already know you are going for the food and not the ambiance. This location is housed in the old city part of St. Augustine and fits well into the neighborhood. All in all, this place is great. The Bantam Chef offers great food at a great price served by smiling faces. Isn't that ultimately all we need?

This had got to be the best bang for your buck food establishment in the Saint Augustine historic district. $8.30 for a HUGE fish sandwich that tastes great too. The staff was super friendly and service was quick considering they cook the food to order. The have limited inside and outside seating in their 2 story purple building. The building itself has an interesting story behind it too. It dates back to 1899 and is considered to have historic significance. When the owner wanted to demolish it the city would not give the thumbs up. So the 90 ton house was moved in 2017 to it's current location. Some TLC over a few years and it has been transformed into a great new business. My tip would be to grab your food here then make the very short walk to Dog Rose Brewing to eat it while throwing back with some excellent craft beer.
